The Trump Administration released a memorandum today that removes undocumented immigrants from congressional apportionment, in violation of the Constitution
Washington, DC - In response to the unconstitutional memorandum released by the President excluding undocumented immigrants from the 2020 Census count, the following is a statement from APALA condemning yet another attack on immigrants to undermine a fair and accurate Census count.
Alvina Yeh, Executive Director of Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO:
"When over 140,000 people have died of COVID-19 and it is abundantly clear that our public hospitals are woefully underfunded, it is unconscionable that Trump and his white supremacist administration is threatening to undercount and therefore underfund our communities. They failed once and they'll fail again because this is unconstitutional, plain and simple. We know that this is another intimidation tactic to scare people away from getting counted, undocumented or otherwise, and to literally whitewash our congressional maps. This is unconstitutional, and we will continue to fight against all attempts to erase marginalized communities from the Census.”
