“Conservative judges continue to play politics alongside Republican members of Congress to prevent the implementation of President Obama's immigration executive action,” said Johanna Puno Hester, APALA National President. “They chose to block common sense and in our opinion, legal, administrative actions, exemplifying the continual Republican anti-immigrant agenda."
The U.S. Department of Justice will swiftly appeal this decision so that the case will be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court. “Undocumented immigrants continue to be ostracized for their immigration status and will continue to be criminalized until the imprisonment of black and brown bodies cease to be viewed as a bottom line for profit and cheap labor. In the meantime we must elevate the voices in our community who are excluded from this relief, especially those who are already labeled as a felon or unworthy,” said Yves Gomes, APALA National Executive Board Member. “APALA is hopeful the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn this decision and grant administrative relief for millions of undocumented immigrants.”
