The creation of the Young Leaders Council demonstrates APALA’s expanding focus on the growing base of Asian Pacific American youth and inter-generational movement building. “The young leaders will grow and learn while serving on the Council” said Van Nguyen, APALA’s 2nd Vice President and Chair of the Young Leaders Council. “The council members are going to be assets for the National Executive Board and their local chapters as well.”
APALA’s commitment to young people has expanded into a mentorship program and joining the Generational Alliance coalition earlier this year. “There are so many intelligent and passionate young leaders out there who have so much to offer; APALA is looking towards the future and building a pipeline for young students and workers to fight for social & economic justice,” says APALA Executive Director, Gregory Cendana.
"I'm excited for the launch of the Young Leaders Council! At our bi-annual convention last year, many young leaders were eager to play a greater role in APALA,” said Eunice Kwon, Alameda Chapter council representative and former APALA National intern. “I'm looking forward to building on that momentum and growing our chapters with APA folks from all generations!"
