AAPIs are #EssentialNotExpendable Campaign Launch

5/8/2020

For Planning Purposes Only: TODAY, May 1st, 2020
Contact: 215-776-0632, apala@apalanet.org

Washington, DC —  TODAY, on May 1st, to celebrate May Day and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO (APALA) and the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO), will launch a campaign honoring over 2.1 million Asian American and Pacific Islander workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis and raising demands to improve the well-being and economic security of the AAPI community and working people. The pandemic has demonstrated just how critical the work of farmworkers, domestic workers, grocery personnel, home healthcare providers, and more workers are—both to addressing COVID-19 and to maintaining systems that sustain families and communities.

This May Day and throughout the month, we will honor these workers and their substantial contributions by hosting these events in addition to the video releases:
  • “AAPIs are #EssentialNotExpendable” Facebook Live campaign launch,
  • “We are all Essential” May Day Rally,
  • “AAPIs are #EssentialNotExpendable” Twitter Chat

Every Monday this May, starting May 4th, the “AAPIs are #EssentialNotExpendable” Campaign will release video interviews featuring essential AAPI workers from various sectors, from health care to hospitality and more. The videos will be available at www.apalanet.org/aapi-workers with English, Vietnamese, Urdu, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Tagalog subtitles.
