National Fellowship for Civic Engagement
APALA and our sister organization IAPALA established the National Fellowship for Civic Engagement where fellows have the opportunity to be paired with a mentor from any of the major APALA chapters, Central Labor Councils, or State Federation and political campaigns. By participating in field organizing and digital communication projects, individuals are able to engage in current AAPI and labor movements, election planning and campaigning, and the promotion of social justice and voter representation in the AAPI community.

Young Leaders Council (YLC)
APALA launched APALA’s Young Leaders Council; the first of its kind, bringing together AAPI young people from around the country to discuss issues in their communities. Under the guidance of APALA’s National Executive Board, YLC will help develop a dynamic organizing and political strategy. The Young Leaders Council is also a part of the AFL-CIO’s Young Workers Advisory Council and works closely with members of the Generational Alliance, where we remain the only Asian Pacific American and labor organization to be a member. YLC appointees form each chapter range from young professionals and workers (both union and nonunion), students, organizers, and community leaders. In addition, the following organizations that focus on labor include: United States Students Association (USSA); Student labor Action Project (SLAP); United Students Against Sweatshops (USS); Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL); United We Dream (UDW); and Asian American, Native American, Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) |
Organizing Institutes (OI)
The Organizing Institute trains AAPI activists and organizers in organizing skills, AAPI and labor history from trainers/fellows who come a variety of unions, sectors and workplaces. This training has been a tradition for more than two decades—developing generations of AAPI community and labor organizers. Our hope is that we will be able to take this to scale by offering more OIs across the country in different regions and to train the staff and leadership of AAPI community, faith and youth organizations.
John Delloro Mentorship Program
The John Delloro Mentorship program is the mentorship program that identifies, trains and engages fellows across the country by matching them with chapters and community partners. Year-round trainings focus on preparing individuals to develop, coordinate and implement issue and electoral campaigns.
