We're welcoming Minh Tran as LA's Civic Engagement Fellow!

Minh Tran is a transfer student at UCLA majoring in Sociology. Raised in a working-class household by parents who were refugees of the Vietnam War, Minh credits the strong union representation at her community college for getting her involved in labor. In addition to past involvement with the LA chapter of APALA, she has interned for AFT and NNU. Recently, at this year's Summer Institute on Union Women (SIUW), Minh served on the internal steering committee and was a panelist for the Institute's climate justice workshop. She currently serves as co-chair of the local Fossil Free chapter. Besides reading novels and swimming for her health, Minh drinks copious amounts of coffee in her spare time.

Organizing Win!

By virtue of APALA Los Angeles Chapter’s continued organizing efforts throughout the years, Chinese Daily News workers won a $7.8 million wage theft settlement against the company for work place and wage theft violations. This significant settlement also included funds to support legal clinics for workers to obtain much needed information about their rights as workers.  Furthermore, at their latest membership meeting, the APALA Los Angeles Chapter celebrated Jan Tokumaru’s retirement and thanked her for her enduring deep-rooted dedication to serving the AAPI community in Los Angeles and beyond!
