Voter Registration

Voter registration represents the first step towards political engagement and empowerment.  APAs, due to high immigration rates and unfamiliarity with the political system, have some of the lowest voter registration rates among all racial groups.  However, research has proven that once APAs are registered, they turn out to vote at rates that mirror their white counterparts. Activities for the 2008 Elections included:

1.Conducted door-to-door canvass operation targeting APA non-registered voters;

2.Conducted outreach to APA organizations, local and ethnic media;

3.Secured free and paid advertisements in local community newspapers encouraging APAs to register to vote; and

4.Promoted voter registration drives at APA community events
