Norman Ten
Since 1983, Norm joined the Exploratorium, as their Life Sciences
Senior Exhibit Tech. In 1991, he was one of the key member organizers
to this founding Private Non-Profit Chapter. Norm has served
consistently as a negotiator and co-chief steward for his chapter. He
was also a founding trustee to SEIU 790A.
Norm joined APALA in 1994 and was quite impressed by the many Asian
activists, such as Greg, Kent, Luisa, and Josie. Becoming more active
in his chapter, local, and the Asian Community, he was very
appreciative of the APALA trainings, such as the Organizing Institute.
Boarding the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride buses in 2003, Norm with
his fellow riders were given the awesome responsibility of keeping the
flames of social justice alive, in honor of the Freedom Riders of the
past.
Norm currently serves as SEIU local 790s' Industry Chair for the
Private Sector / Non-Profits Industry Council. Actively member
organizing, this officer takes great pride in empowering other members
to become leaders. His reasons for being involved are summed up in
three words, that he holds dear to his heart. "DIGNITY. RESPECT.
INTEGRITY."
