Dory Machica

   
   
     Dory Machica began her career as an Organizer when she was a Rank and File Member of SEIU 399.  She was then promoted to Shop Steward and later became an active Political Organizer Member of her union.  For more than five years, Machica works as a Shop Steward, Organizer, Activist and as a Member of the Executive Board of the Kaiser Division.  As a member of the APALA National Executive Board, Dory tirelessly recruited new and associate members for the organization.  She also participated in Precinct Walking and rallies representing APALA and SEIU 399 during the 2002 election campaign. She worked as a volunteer to organize Tenet healthcare workers. 

     She also organized CHW hospitals in California such as St. Bernardine Hospital and Community Hospital in San Bernardino; California Hospital in Los Angeles; and St. Mary Hospital in Long Beach.  Sister Machica visited work sites to ensure management and labor employees adhered to union contract specifications.  She helped negotiate employees’ working hours, wages and individual grievances with Kaiser Management.  

    In recognition for her tireless dedication and leadership in organizing,  Dory Machica  was awarded the 2001 SEIU 399 Member Organizing Intern of the Year.  She earned this award for going beyond the call of duty to organize over 10,000 hospital workers in California.  In 2002, she received a Certificate of Appreciation from SEIU 399 for building a stronger labor movement.  And in 2003, she received a Recognition from the California State Board of Equalization and APALA, AFL-CIO, Los Angeles Chapter for her dedicated service on behalf of California’s Working Families.

    Dory Machica resides in Los Angeles, California with her family.
