APAULS Class participants and trainers
The UCLA Labor Center initiated its first Asian Pacific American Union Leadership School in 2001. Since its inception, APALA has assisted and co-hosted this unique leadership development training.
Participants, mostly union rank and file members, are exposed to sessions on effective organizing, political mobilization, and leadership development. Additionally, trainers convene panel discussions addressing the importance of community and labor coalitions and the critical role that union members will play in organizing, contract campaigns, and the political elections. Finally, trainers facilitate strategic planning sessions to ensure that participants are able to incorporate these tools into their respective organizations.
